What is stock exchange? – Major stock exchanges of the world

Initially, a company makes public offering and raise capital from potential investors. These investors invest their hard earned money into companies with so many expectations. If later on, any of these investors wants to exit from the investments then he has to find a potential investor on his own and bargain with him for a price. To facilitate this, stock exchange concept has emerged.

Stock Exchange is a place where each and every company goes public have to be listed and trade their shares. It allow investors to exit at any point of time that they want by selling it in market. Its formed for trading shares or derivatives at an agreed price. It’s one of the most important sources for companies to raise money.

NASDAQ New York City It owns and operates the NASDAQ stock market and eight European market in the Nordic and Baltic regions and Armenia under the NASDAQ OMX banner.
Tokyo Stock Exchange Tokyo It is located in Tokyo, Japan and the third largest in the world by aggregate market capitalization of its listed companies.
London Stock Exchange London Located in the City of London in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1801 and its current premises are situated in Paternoster Square close to St Paul’s Cathedral in the City of London. It’s the fourth largest of the world.
Hong Kong Stock Exchange Hong Kong It’s the Asia’s second largest in terms of market capitalization behind Tokyo and the fifth largest in the world.
Shanghai Stock Exchange Shanghai Based in the city of Shanghai, China it’s the world’s 6th largest market by market capitalization.
TMX Group Toronto TMX Group is headquartered in Toronto and operates offices across Canada (Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver), in key U.S. markets (New York, Houston, Boston and Chicago) as well as in London, Beijing and Sydney. Its world’s 7th largest market.
Deutsche Börse Frankfurt It is a joint company and was founded in 1993. The headquarters are in Frankfurt, Germany
Australian Securities Exchange Sydney It was created by the merger of the Australian and the Sydney exchange in July 2006.
BSE Mumbai Commonly referred to as the BSE located in Dalal Street, Mumbai, t is the 10th largest in the world by market capitalization.
