Permanent Account Number – Allotment of Physical PAN Card

Permanent Account Number or PAN is issued by the income tax department in India. Now it’s mandatory to quote a Permanent Account Number or PAN while filing your income tax return in India.

PAN is also required to be quoted in transactions such as cash deposit of more than Rs 50, 000, sale, purchase of immovable property or motor vehicle, and other transactions mentioned in the Income-tax Act.

Below in this article, we will be showing your steps on how to apply for a permanent account number or PAN.

Applying for Permanent Account Number or PAN

Applicants may obtain the application form for Permanent Account Number (Form 49A) from any IT PAN Service Centers (managed by UTIITSL) or TIN-Facilitation Centers (TIN-FCs)/PAN Centers (managed by NSDL), or any other stationery vendor providing such forms

NSDL has created many TIN facilitation center across India to facilitate the PAN application process. Now all most all cities have this center. A person wanted to apply through a TIN Facilitation center need to visit the center and fill out the application form.

Documents Required to Apply for a Permanent Account Number

It is mandatory to attach proof of identity and proof of address with the Permanent Account Number application form 49A.

How to apply for a Permanent Account Number – Allotment of PAN Card

Documents should be in the name of the Applicant. List of documents which will serve as proof of identity and address for each status of the applicant is as given below:

Document acceptable as proof of identity and address as per Rule 114 of Income Tax Rules, 1962;

Documents required for Individuals and HUF

Note :-1. In case of Minor, any of the above mentioned documents as proof of identity and address of any of parents/guardians of such minor shall be deemed to be the proof of identity and address for the minor applicant.2. For HUF, an affidavit made by the Karta of Hindu Undivided Family stating name, father’s name and address of all the coparceners on the date of application and copy of any of the above documents in the name of Karta of HUF is required.Note:1. Proof of Address is required for residence address mentioned in item no. 7.2. In case of an Indian citizen residing outside India, copy ofBank Account Statement in country of residence or copy ofNon-resident External(NRE) bank account statements.
Other than Individuals and HUF 
1.CompanyCopy of Certificate of Registration issued by the Registrar of Companies.
2.Partnership FirmCopy of Certificate of Registration issued by the Registrar of Firms or Copy of partnership deed.
3.Limited Liability PartnershipCopy of Certificate of Registration issued by the Registrar of LLPs
4.TrustCopy of trust deed or copy of certificate of registration number issued by Charity Commissioner.
5.Association of Person, Body ofindividuals, Local Authority, or ArtificialJuridical PersonCopy of Agreement or copy of certificate of registration n umber issued by charity commissioner or registrar of cooperative society or any other competent authority or any other document originating from any Central or State Government Department establishing identity and address of such person.
    

Signature on the PAN Application Form 49A

Application must be signed by

  • the applicant; or
  • Karta in case of HUF; or
  • Director of a Company; or
  • Authorized Signature in case of AOP, Body of Individuals, Local Authority and Artificial Juridical Person; or
  • Partner in case of Firm/LLP; or
  • Trustee; or
  • Representative Assessee in case of Minor/deceased/idiot/lunatic/mentally retarded.

Applications not signed in the given manner and in the space provided are liable to be rejected.

Processing fees for issuing Permanent Account Number

The processing fees for issuing Permanent Account Number Card are as follows:

  • Rs. 93 if the dispatch of PAN Card is in India.
  • Rs. 864 if the dispatch of PAN Card is outside India.

(Both the above charges are excluding of goods and service tax.)
